  • It should have been more deeply hidden

Do not bother. If you were a fan of the previous novels in this series, you will be sorely disappointed. Lynley is a bore, Havers is no more like her original depiction (in fact, she is disgusting and unlikeable) there are long, tedious entries that have nothing to do with the murder case, there is a constant attempt to “fit in” with UK slang which is annoying, this long, tiresome book is the last I will ever have to do with Elizabeth George. In fact, I believe with this effort on her part, she has done more damage to race relations than good. Both side of the black, white community are not admirable people I would emulate.

  • Another page turner.

I have been anticipating a new Elizabeth George novel for some time and this one does not disappoint. I read it in just over a day! George addresses a very sensitive but highly important issue, FGM. Although I knew a bit about it, the novel handles it in a way that clarifies a lot of the mystery surrounding this cultural subject. I was also glad to see that Barbara is developing a slight interest in someone and love the lighter moments when Dee tries to help her out!
