  • Captivating

I was captivated by this book from the first chapter. The author creates such a clear picture you will feel like you are there. The story itself is so touching, and yet heartwarming and tragic at the same time. Highly recommend.

  • Take a pass

It was just okay. I kept waiting for some attention grabbing drama but it didn't happen. It was a bit too simple in both the story and the writing style for my taste.

  • A good read.

I enjoyed the read. Well constructed and it moves along logically. I really found the information on the caste system interesting and liked that the story portrayed women in all their glory.

  • The Henna Artist

I enjoyed reading this book but wouldn’t say it was one of my favourites. The setting was very interesting. I found Hari’s metamorphosis from drunken abusive husband to his care and concern for labouring mothers , using remedies from his mother’s teachings pretty unbelievable. Also far fetched was Lakshmi’s transition from herbalist to valued member of the medical team at the Shimla hospital.

    Thanks for your feedback!

  • Interesting and Easy to Read

This was an easy and interesting look into the life of 1950's India and it's caste system and expectations and treatment of women at that time.
